Course Summary

This course will introduce the terminology and practical techniques needed to understand and carry out multitrack recording sessions, MIDI sequencing skills, and various aspects of audio production. You will learn how to set up equipment including audio workstations and microphones, as well as learn about microphone placement and the principles of creating a stereo mixdown. This is an ideal course for anyone wishing to pursue a career in music production, recording or DJ production, or wishing to study this subject at a higher level at university.

Assessment is through a mixture of practical work, written work, and presentations.

Entry requirements

At least four to five GCSEs graded 9-4 including English or Maths at grade 4 or above. The ability to play an instrument or sing would be an advantage, as would basic note-reading skills.

The College does have various instruments and equipment, but it will likely be beneficial for you to bring in your own instruments if you wish to record them.
