Virtual School support for post 16 Children We Care For

If you are aged between 16 and 18, you will receive continued support from the Virtual School to access education, employment and training. This is provided through the PEP process in conjunction with achieved through working alongside your wider network supporting the you, including your Advisory teacher, Social Worker and Personal Advisors, the Apprenticeships Team, Careers Team, Employment Hubs and our post-16 Learning Advocate.

Upon turning 18, you can consent for your PEPs to continue until the end of academic year (year 13).  The PEP process then provides continued coordinated support for the you as part of your care leaver transition support and, whereby your allocated Personal Advisor and Social Worker will attend the PEP meetings together., as part of your care leaver transition support. 

If you are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET tThe Virtual School has three allocated Careers Advisors who can be allocated to work directly with you to explore your optionsif you are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET.

We have a post-16 learning advocate who can work directly with a you If you have aspirations to progress onto higher level apprenticeships and/or higher education, irrespective of your starting point, we have a post-16 learning advocate who can support you in this process. 

Both the Careers Advisors and our Learning Advocate can help you identify your options and help plan next steps, enabling you to work towards your chosen goals and aspirations, whether that be education, employment or training.

Bursaries

You may be entitled could get to a bursary to help with education-related costs, if you are aged 16 to 19 and

  • studying at a publicly funded school or college in England - not a university.
  • on a training course, including unpaid work experience.

A bursary is money that you, or your education or training provider, can use to pay for things like:

  • clothing, books and other equipment for your course.
  • transport and lunch on days you study or train.
